Wednesday 24 February – GETTING STARTED WITH WRITERS WORKSHOP (ONLINE)

Presented by Deb Sukarna for Foundation to Year 6 Teachers

*NEW WORKSHOP

This seminar will outline each organisational feature of Writers Workshop with the focus on practical ways to set up and manage a daily session. How we organise for teaching and learning is driven by Writing Process theory – we need to understand the purpose behind each component of Writers Workshop. The aim is to build teacher confidence in establishing routines and expectations at the beginning of the year. This seminar is linked to other topics offered on Writers Workshop where the emphasis is more on going further with the teaching of Writing.

  • The importance of current literacy research underpinning how we organise for learning in
    Writers Workshop
  • Things we need to consider if our students are to actually learn how to write, rather than just
    do writing
  • Understanding the Writing Process and how it is reflected in how we structure and organise our teaching time
  • Key components of a Writers Workshop
  • A walk through the structure of a writing session and the independent writing routine
  • Each key feature will be highlighted with a focus on how to organise and be prepared
  • It will clarify what the Teacher Needs and what the Students Need to get started
